Musical Chairs (A seated dance movement session)
Designed for people in their twilight years or who are physically, neurologically or emotionally challenged and want to keep their body and brain active and talking to each other. No previous experience is necessary, just a young at heart attitude to have some fun and antics with friends.
Science is clear and tells us that one of the last areas of the brain to remain functional are the ones connected to music. Research supports this even further indicating that an integration through movement of the emotional, physical and cognitive can do wonders for our wellbeing. No wonder participants feel a surge of emotion as they dance, move and possibly sing their way through music from their era. One participant commented after a class;
“I just like the way I feel!”
The choreography is especially designed with movements that are gentle and incorporate brain gym, joint flexibility and balance. Jayne dedicates time to movements that wake up the wrist and hands, with an all round focus on motor coordination and core strength. The social and communal environment promotes a positive emotional response and a sense of empowerment as participants leave with a smile on their face, a song in their heart and lifted spirits; as medicine for the soul can only do.
